My Journey Into Art

My name is Hilary and I welcome you on my journey into art.

I discovered my love of painting almost twenty years ago. Ever since then I have been learning and studying different aspects of painting and making art! I’ve studied with some amazing professional artists who have all given their time and knowledge so generously, leading me to where I am today. My journey began with watercolours, small projects and experiments, that eventually led me to enrol in classes. At the time I was working but continued to practice and joined some local art groups where I exhibited and to my delight sold some paintings!

I am now painting mainly with traditional oils but still love watercolours and enjoy the qualities of both. I love painting outdoors but also working from life at home – still life is a current passion! I also enjoy figurative paintings and natural landscapes. My art is representational, and I try to achieve an impressionistic result. I have been taught and encouraged to capture the journey of light and shadow across a subject which is so beautiful.

I have taught watercolours locally and hope that I can encourage others to gain confidence and enjoyment to give back some of the skills I have learnt from those who have taught me. You will find examples of my work in both oil and watercolour in the links below.

I am a member of several local art groups and participate in annual exhibitions, some of which are listed below:

  • 2013 Highly Commended: Patchings / The Artist open competition

  • 2013 Runner up, Williamsburg Oils open competition

  • 2014-2015 participant in Swindon Open Studios
